That's what happened to a 24-year-old English blogger who had saved the street animal during his holidays. How is Guillain-Barré Syndrome?
It started as a more detailed anecdote of his trip through Albufeira, Portugal. English blogger Gemma Birch (24) has adopted a cat that he found on the streetHe fed her and patted her for several days. When he returned home to Southport, England, he started throwing up and decided to go to the doctor.
At his first diagnosis, he was told that it could be a food poisoning related to raw chicken consumption. The problem is that Birch is a vegetarian. The experts told him that he could have infected by contact with your cat.
The young blogger has returned home and in her normal life. A few days later, she began to feel numbness in the legs. He went back to the doctor and this time the diagnosis was much more serious. They told him that he had contracted Guillain-Barré Syndrome (GBS, for its acronym in English).
A disease that is transmitted by a bacterium and this causes the immune system to mistakenly attack the peripheral nervous system, which connects the brain and spinal cord to the rest of the body. The consequences can be from weakening of muscles until total paralysis.
This was the case of Gemma, who had lost all sensitivity in the legs and had to remain bedridden for a little more than a year. Fortunately, he was able to find the mobility of his legs through good rehabilitation.
