‘Wait for us’: López Obrador ruled out special COVID-19 vaccination program for private doctors

President Andrés Manuel López Obrador pointed out that the federal government has already defined a vaccination strategy against COVID-19 so he asked the private doctors who need to be vaccinated, “Waiting for us”.

During his traditional morning conference at the National Palace, the president insisted that specialists suggested starting to vaccinate medical staff working in COVID hospitals, and then the elderly. Asked about the request of private doctors to be vaccinated, and who this morning moved their demonstrations in front of the national palace, the Mexican president assured that their claims are not rejected, but that they will have to wait until their age is due.

“I understand the doctors’ request, we are not throwing it in the trash, but we already have a strategy that will help us all”, he declared and specified that “the vaccine is applied universally (…) it does not matter. that the doctors are in private hospitals “, he stressed.

López Obrador insisted that vaccination is universal and free, but that it is applied by a principle of equality, for which he stressed that there is no preference in terms of vaccination.

Private doctors say they have been discriminated against because they were not included in the national COVID-19 vaccination plan

This morning, doctors from the private sector arrived at the gates of the National Palace – home of López Obrador – to demand that they be administered the COVID-19 vaccine.

They ensured that they were discriminated against by not being part of the immunization plan that prioritized public sector health workers and stressed that as doctors they are also at risk of becoming infected because that they care for people with COVID-19.

That is why they demanded an audience with President López Obrador so as not to continue to be relegated.
