Luis Fernando Sanabria, director of the company, revealed in an interview for the business newspaper La República that, despite the delays caused by the pandemic, continue the construction of the El Salitre treatment plant, which will treat 25% of Bogotá’s water, which will be delivered between April and May 2022.

However, considering the possible navigability of the river in this section, the director said it is not yet released to the public as there is still work on the strong smell the river gives off as it makes many years of pollution, but indicated that if possible in the future.

He also said that all the work to recover the Laguna de Fúquene, which is the daughter of the Suárez river and which intends to be decontaminated with the construction of the Ubaté wastewater treatment plant, which is currently recording a work advance of close to 80%. However, despite the construction of this PTR, the recovery of the lagoon can take up to 15 years.

Regarding the impact that this construction would generate and to whom it will benefit, the director of the CAR noted: “We have around 297 people working there. The impact for the region is very important, moreover, between Zipaquirá and San Gil, and even Bucaramanga, the place which generates the most jobs, without counting the public entities, is the Laguna de Fúquene ”.

At the end, he referred to the last known images of the Suesca Lagoon, which he indicated that from CAR they know has been severely affected by the dry season, as he clarified that no source has reached this water lagoon. which feeds it, apart from rainwater, for which he stressed that the Company should analyze and carry out studies to find out if there are leaks.
