The former president of Brazil Michel Temer He was arrested on Thursday as part of a case related to Lava Jato, the famous anti-corruption operation that revealed a deviation scandal from the national oil company Petrobras.
The detention was ordered as part of an open investigation to verify alleged irregularities in contracts signed by companies already condemned by Lava Jato and Eletronuclear, the state company that operates the country's nuclear power plants.
According to the complaint, companies that won contracts with Eletronuclear paid bribes to favor MDB executives, the training conducted by Temer and whose leaders have for many years controlled the entire state-owned electricity sector in the country. Such suspicious contracts were signed in 2016 while Temer already presided over Brazil.
The complaint was filed by the owner of Engevix, Jose Antunes Sobrinho, who agreed to collaborate with the law and expose his accomplices of various corruption cases in exchange for reducing their sentences.
The businessman badured that Bribes paid at the request of reserve colonel Joao Baptista Filma Filho, a close friend of Temer and whose prison was also sentenced, to win one of the contracts relating to the construction of the nuclear power plant Angra 3.
According to Antunes Sobrinho, the payment of illegal commissions in favor of the MDB was known by both Temer and Moreira Franco, who was Secretary General of the Presidency and Secretary of Civil Aviation of the Temer Government, as well as Secretary for Strategic Affairs of the Rousseff Government Presidency.
The former president is currently responding to ten processes, five of which were in the hands of the Supreme Court for the privileged jurisdiction but have already begun to be badyzed by trial judges.
The other five investigations were opened in January this year, when Temer no longer had the privileged jurisdiction, by order of magistrate Luis Roberto Barroso.
Fear, cited in several surveys, was arrested by order of Judge Marcelo Bretas, from Lava Jato to Rio de Janeiro. The former president of the Brazilian Democratic Movement (MDB), aged 78, was the vice president of Dilma Rousseff, whom he replaced in May 2016 when the leftist president was removed from office in the framework of a survey for attempted manipulation of the public accounts.
Petrobras corruption metastasized at Eletronuclear
"The (same network of) corruption has spread to other areas of public administration" and state-owned enterprises, "it is endemic" and "in the phase of metastasis", said the prosecutor. Athayde Ribeiro Costa.
The former president of Eletronuclear, Vice Admiral of the Navy Othon Luiz Pinheiro da Silva, was arrested during an operation to seek evidence regarding alleged diversion of resources in the construction contracts of the nuclear power plant Angra 3.
The researchers calculated that Pinheiro da Silva, who had left office when he began his research, received approximately R $ 4.5 million (approximately $ 1,365 million) for rigging contracts for the construction of the nuclear power plant. Meanwhile, Temer's group and his relatives would be involved in the $ 1.8 million deviation (about $ 471 million).
The contracts were awarded by Eletronuclear, a subsidiary of the energy group Eletrobras, to several of the companies accused of diverting resources in contracts with Petrobras.
According to the prosecutor's office, the companies involved in the Petrobras case they got faked contracts with the oil company, inflated their values and distributed surpluses to politicians which covered corruption and some former directors of the state corporation.
