However, a team of psychologists from the University of Western Ontario in Canada conducted a study suggesting that a fourth element should be included in this combo of evil.

To reach this conclusion, psychologists applied a test of nine questions to 202 university students (54 men and 148 women) aged 17 to 26 years.

These are the nine questions in the quiz, in which participants scored from 1 to 5 how much they agreed with these statements:

Student responses have led researchers to conclude that while sadism shares some of the characteristics of narcissism, psychopathy, and Machiavellianism, "it can not be reduced to other traits."

Dr. Minna Lyons, a researcher at the Faculty of Psychology at the University of Liverpool, who did not participate in this study, acknowledges that sadism is a trait in itself.

"Sadism is interesting because it seems to be different from the black triad," Lyons told BBC Mundo. "If a person has high scores in psychopathy, they do not necessarily like to cause pain to other people, so that seems to be a distinct personality trait."
