Over the past few hours, social media has been inundated with videos, images and texts, the main subject of which is the 3D image of a giant calico cat that looks like walk, lie down and hang out on top of a three story building in Tokyo, Japan.

The initiative is nothing more than an advertisement placed in the Cross Shinjuku building, located just outside Shinjuku Station, belonging to the Tokyo Metro. It was developed by the company Microad Digital Signage and Yunika in collaboration with Cross Space, and will have its big launch on July 12th, although as of the last 1 of this month, they’ve been screening it for the more than 190,000 passers-by who pass through this corner daily.
The chat will appear every day between 7:00 a.m. and 1:00 a.m., wake up when the building opens and fall asleep just before the announcement is broadcast.
“A 3D giant calico cat created in blockbuster quality will bring surprises, laughter and healing to nearby users. Cross Shinjuku Vision’s lower deck is an event space, and it’s conveniently located right across from JR Shinjuku East Exit Station Square, ”Cross Space explained in a press release.
Regarding technical data, the cat and its environment results in a 154.7 square meter curved LED display with 4K UHD resolution It offers a true range of vivid colors and a lifelike image. It also has speakers that deliver high quality sound.
Likewise, Cross Space reported that, “Floors 1 to 3 (of your building) can be used as a weekly event space”, therefore “by associating with visual distribution, a more effective promotion is possible”.
However, although people who live in the western part of the world think that the “magic” is real and that the 3D effect is achieved by viewing the image from the desired location, it turns out that there is a something that only passers-by could notice.

“Since the 3D effect is limited with ordinary flat signage, the shape of the view and the viewing angle of the screen are important for efficient 3D imaging.
