Wimbledon 2018 – Angelique Kerber goes to the final

LONDON – Angelique Kerber is back in the Wimbledon final. It has yet to be determined.

Kerber, a two-time Grand Slam champion, led Jelena Ostapenko, champion of the 2017 French Open, 6-3 and 6-3 on Thursday on the central court of the All England Club

. "It's so great to be back in the final," Kerber said after the match. "I'm really excited."

Ostapenko entered the semi-final match having not yet lost a set. This series ended rather quickly because Kerber remained solid, making only seven direct mistakes in the first set amid a series of wins and direct errors of the more aggressive Ostapenko

. – which totaled 35 at the end of the match – gave Kerber two more breaks for a 5-1 lead.

Playing his first Wimbledon semifinal, Ostapenko, 21, rallied to save a match and Breaking the Kerber service for the first time, but the German saved a break point by serving the match on the second attempt

Kerber, 11th seed, competing to become the first German champion at Wimbledon since Steffi Graf (1996). Wimbledon finalist in 2016, losing to Serena Williams.

Williams, seven-time champion, will offer a rematch to Kerber if she manages to overtake Julia Goerges, Kerber's compatriot who will play his first Grand Slam semifinal.
