The meeting comes after several countries have asked Maduro to call new elections.
In the middle of the crisis in Venezuela, Mauricio Macri will visit Uruguay on Wednesday to meet his counterpart, Tabaré Vázquez, where he will discuss the difficult situation in which the government of Nicolás Maduro is.
Macri's visit comes after Uruguay changed its position vis-à-vis Venezuela, following a meeting of the Contact Group – which brings together countries seeking a solution to the Bolivarian crisis – and called for new elections.
The two presidents will meet at the Aarón National Park in Anchorena, Colonia. Although the agenda of the meeting is open, the organization's close badures that the Maduro government's crisis will be a priority.
"The burning situation in Venezuela and the constant search for a consolidation of Mercosur will be issues that will surely be on the table of dialogue," they told AFP in Tabaré.
Argentina is part of the Lima group with Brazil, Canada, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Guatemala, Honduras, Panama, Paraguay and Peru. And all of its members ignored Maduro's new tenure and accepted Juan Guaidó as a legitimate authority in Venezuela, after self-proclaiming president. However, Uruguay, which has not recognized it, maintains a neutral position but seeks to be elected.
Meanwhile, the bid to host the 2030 World Cup, which the two countries hope to jointly prepare with Paraguay, could also make its way.
