In what is the third case in two weeks, another “empty syringe” episode has occurred in Villavicencio.
The event occurred on the afternoon of March 15, when the family of an elderly person accompanied him to the IPS Parque del Barzal, of the capital of the department of Meta.
In view of the precedents that have occurred Floridablanca and in Medellin, the guardians decided to record the procedure and detected that their parent had not been injected with the assigned dose of the biologic.
According to the report posted on the Twitter account @HealthAnd, which replicated the user’s original content @JamesInforma, the family, after doing the respective claimobserved how the nurse applied the corresponding vaccine to the elderly.
Below is the video that records the application of the “empty syringe”, broadcast via Twitter.
While awaiting the pronouncement of the Superintendence of Health on this new irregularity, during the first half of March two previous cases of “empty syringes” were reported by relatives who accompanied the elderly to their vaccination against covid -19 .
The first one happened in Floridablanca, Santander: Using the same impersonation mechanism, they “injected” a woman while the syringe was empty.
The second, dated March 3, arrived in Medellín, Antioquia, to a 94-year-old woman.
On the latter, the Antioquia Medical College called on patients to verify vaccination protocols are being followed.
There was even a statement from the mayor Daniel Quintero, who called the “empty syringe” episode very serious because the woman’s life could be in danger and announced investigations.
“I call on SuperSalud to conduct a rigorous investigation, to take stock if it is a question of pressure or of the black market, one of the two is very serious”, the president told local media.
As a monitoring mechanism, agreed in January 2021 to take note of the national vaccination plan, The Comptroller General of the Republic confirmed that one of his teams had visited the departments involved in these cases to determine the reasons why covid-19 vaccines they are not applied correctly.
More precisely, for what happened in Medellín, the National Superintendence of Health, through the Directorate of Inspection and Surveillance of Territorial Entities, asked, this Monday, March 15, to the secretary Antioquia Health Section, Lina María Bustamante Sánchez, to report on the actions taken concerning the cases and determine whether or not there has been non-compliance with the guidelines of the National Vaccination Plan, taking into account the powers of inspection, surveillance and control of the actors under its jurisdiction .
Likewise, the entity required EPS Sura, in the case of adults over 94, and IPS Coopsana, for vaccinated administrative staff; also assigning mandatory conditions to present the results of internal investigations carried out.
Once the information has been obtained from the requested entities, the Supersalud will assess whether it deems it useful to carry out inspection, surveillance and control actions, in addition to those carried out by the Secretariat of the Antioquia Section.
For the time being, Twitter reactions to third complaint reflect user outrage and call on Supersalud to expedite formal investigations on these irregularities against the elderly and the National Vaccination Plan.
