Travelers who can prove they are fully vaccinated against covid with Pfizer, Moderna, AstraZeneca or Janssen, authorized by the European Medicines Agency (EMA), or with Chinese companies Sinopharm and Sinovac-Coronavac will be able to enter Spain at starting next Monday, June 7th.
The Ministries of Health and the Interior, responsible for health and border control, establish this in a decree that will be officially published this Saturday, with the requirement that the vaccination has been carried out at least 14 days before the ‘arrival.
According to sources from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported on Friday, the Sinopharm and Sinovac-Coronavac vaccines have been added to those authorized by the EMA due to their importance in countries in Latin America and the Middle East where they are also inoculated.
On the contrary, travelers from Brazil, India and South Africa will not be able to enter Spain due to the high incidence of covid-19 variants.
In this way and coinciding with the opening of borders to tourists on June 7, Spain will test the digital green certificate, a QR code accepted by the 27 countries of the European Union, which guarantees that the tourist is vaccinated, has already passed the disease or has a negative PCR test.
The green certificate is officially launched on July 1, but Spain has embarked on a pilot project to activate the mechanism.
Travelers visiting Spain must present this certificate, which will be validated by the Ministry of Health through the Travel Health System in Spain, which will be valid until July 1, 2022.
With this ministerial decree, Spain is ensuring a greater volume of foreign arrivals this summer to reactivate the battered tourism sector, even if it will still have difficulty in recovering the British market.
The UK is forcing you to quarantine when you return to this country because it does not consider Spain a safe destination and keeps it on the orange list, along with France and Portugal.
The British are a driving force behind tourism in the Spanish Atlantic Islands of the Canary Islands, the Mediterranean of the Balearic Islands, the Valencian region (east), the Costa del Sol (south) and Catalonia (north-east). Spain will soon be on the British green list.
From Monday, tourists arriving in Spain will find themselves in a country where they can travel freely, without curfews or closures of territorial perimeters, but with limitations of nightlife and hospitality, depending on the region, and spaces restricted in shops, cultural activities, swimming pools or sports competitions.
Spain lost around 20 million foreign tourists in the first four months of this year compared to 2019, before the pandemic, when it had reached nearly 84 million visitors in total.
