Woman finds 4.38-carat diamond in U.S. nature park

A real stroke of luck had a woman in the United States as she spent an afternoon at Crater of Diamonds State Park in Arkansas. It was a matter of looking down and finding, barely covered by the earth, a 4.8 carat diamond.

Arkansas State Park officials wrote in a press release that Noreen Wredberg of Granite Bay, found the biggest diamond so far this year in the park. The yellow diamond is about the size of a caramel bean.

“When I first saw this diamond under a microscope, I thought, ‘Wow, what a beautiful shape and color! ” Park superintendent Caleb Howell said in the statement.

Wredberg was traveling with her husband Michael around the state when they decided to visit the park. When they got there, they started to look around the entrance. It was then that Michael had the idea to go further into the park because it was very hot and he was looking for shade.

About 40 minutes later, lying on the ground was the diamond.

“I didn’t know it was a diamond at the time, but it was clean and shiny, so I picked it up.” Wredberg said in the statement.

According to the park, the couple named the diamond “Lucy’s Diamond” in honor of the couple’s kitten.

“The name is sentimental to us. Lucy is mostly gray but has slight undertones of yellow in her coat, similar to the light yellow of my diamond. “the couple said in the statement.

While the couple made no mention of other sources of inspiration, the name is also reminiscent of “Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds”, the psychedelic work of The Beatles recorded on their acclaimed Sargent Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band album.

According to the Arkansas State Park website, Visitors have found more than 33,100 diamonds since the Crater of Diamonds became an Arkansas State Park in 1972.

By comparison, the largest diamond found in the park is called Uncle Sam and measures 40.23 carats, and it is also the largest ever unearthed in the United States.
