The woman, residing in California, was charged with throwing seven puppies in the trash and sentenced to several months in jail. A guy walking around discovered the puppies, barely three days old, hiding in a bag. Unfortunately, one of them did not survive.
Deborah Sue Culwell, 54, pleaded guilty to seven counts of cruelty and criminal abandonment of animals, NBC reported. A judge from Indio City, Riverside County on Wednesday sentenced the woman to one year in prison, which was eventually reduced to 174 days for the time already spent.
Culwell was arrested last April after being recorded in a surveillance video at the time she threw the puppies into a garbage dump near a car shop in Coachella town on April 18 this year.
A pbader-by drew attention to the plastic bag where the puppies were thrown and, thanks to their attention, they were transferred to an animal shelter, except a lifeless shelter.
The animal control officers inspected Culwell's home and found 38 other dogs in very bad condition, which were eventually confiscated. The animals were seized and delivered to the animal shelter of the thousand palm trees.
Commander Chris Mayer arrested this afternoon a woman suspected of cruelty to criminal animals for the incident involving the alleged dumping of puppies at Coachella. More info to follow on our official website. #RivCoNOW pic.twitter.com/lPX44RBaGm
