World Autism Awareness Day: tips to help you understand this disorder

Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is of neurobiological origin. It affects the configuration of the nervous system and the functioning of the brain, which creates difficulties in two main areas: communication and social interactions and flexibility of thought and behavior. At present, the cause that explains the occurrence of ASD is not determined, but the strong genetic involvement in its origin.

Specificity ASD has its own fundamental characteristics that define heterogeneously throughout the life cycle.

VARIABILITY Two people with ASD are not the same; it will depend on your personal development and supports you may have, as well as your badociated intellectual disability and your level of language development.

INVISIBLE INVALIDITY. ASD does not have badociated physical differentiator traits (only manifested in cognitive skills of the person and behavior).

LIFE CYCLE. He accompanies the person throughout his life, even if his manifestations and his needs change according to the different stages of development and experiences.

SUPPORTS An integral approach is needed to facilitate the individualized, specialized and evidence-based supports that are most appropriate to improve the quality of life of each person (while maintaining a gender perspective).

Families This has an impact not only on those who present it, but also on their family, a fundamental support for the person with ASD.

As every year, the World Day of Autism is celebrated on April 2nd. It is for this reason that today is the perfect time to visualize this disorder that affects a large number of people all over the planet.

However, we do not know if the choice of this date has a purpose or not. It simply transcends that within the UN, the General Assembly, aware of the problems posed by the disorder that affects a large number of children and concerned about its prevalence, unanimously approved resolution 62/139 of 18 December 2007. so that every 2nd of April from 2008, the International Day of Autism is celebrated all over the world.

The idea in imposing this date was the awareness of the world population so that the societies of the planet take steps to facilitate the integration of these children.
