Activists and a film crew appeared on the red carpet at the Cannes Film Festival, chanting "solidarity" and wearing green to protest the laws on abortion in Argentina.

They were presenting the documentary Que Sea Ley, which translates to "Let It Be Law" and follows the intense battle over a bill that would have legalized abortion in the first 14 weeks of pregnancy.

The country's Senate rejected the bill in August 2018, which means that abortion is still allowed in Argentina only in cases of rape or when the health of the mother is in danger.

At the time. there have been large-scale demonstrations on both sides of the debate in the country where the population is predominantly Roman Catholic.
