Ariel Pink and John Maus spotted in DC Trump riot

Ariel Pink and John Maus were both on Capitol Hill Wednesday as a crowd of Trump supporters forced their way into the premises in an apparent attempt to overturn the 2020 election results.

The chaotic and violent event left four people dead and led to Trump being suspended from Twitter and Facebook after posting messages in which he repeated his belief that the election had been “stolen” from him and told his supporters: ” I love you”.

Among those supporters were independent musicians Ariel Pink and John Maus. A photo of the couple was posted to director Alex Lee Moyer’s private Instagram account, who was also in DC with them. Other images of the group on Capitol Hill during the insurgency have also emerged.

On Thursday morning January 7, Pink tweeted to confirm that he “was peacefully demonstrating my support for the President.” Maus has yet to comment. The FADER contacted the representatives of the two artists to find out more.

Ariel Pink has released her latest album Dedicated to Bobby Jameson in 2017. He has long courted controversy and had previously seemed to show right-wing leanings, tweeting “vote for trump” as recently as this morning.

Maus has not commented directly since his riot appearance was revealed. Thursday night he sharing an encyclical published by the Vatican in 1939 condemning the rise of German nationalism. In response to a fan’s tweet asking “if Ariel Pink locked you in a hotel room in DC”, Maus posted a photograph of Saint Edith Stein.

Previously, Maus was involved in the Adult Swim series Million Dollar Extreme Presents: World Peace which was canceled in 2016 after a season when creator Sam Hyde was criticized for using alt-right memes on the show. His latest album, Screen memories, arrived in 2017.
