Aristides Aquino was quick to hit another homerun and join his name to another record. Miami's Robert Dugger's 0-1, the Reds rookie smoked in the stands for his 14th defenseman of the month, officially beating Cody Bellinger's rookie record with 13 entries in June 2017. That success comes just a day after Aquino became the first player in the history of the MLB to hit 13 homers in his first 27 career games and his 100 plate matches.
This bat breakthrough created a pretty cherry over this moment, but it would not be a good Aquino blog if there was not more. Mark Sheldon of MLB.com reports that the circuit also equalizes a club record for most circuits in a month, regardless of the player. Frank Robinson set the record in August 1962 and only tied it once. Greg Vaughn did it in September 1999.
The next Aquino title is the Major League record for most beginner players in a month, which Rudy York of Detroit established in August 1937 (eh, I feel a theme here). Since speculating on reaching this mark would probably lead to a spell of cataclysmic proportions, we'll leave you something less reckless instead: a comparison of Aquino and Barry Bonds in their first 27 games.
Good enough!
