Arizona State Senator Michelle Ugenti-Rita was booed off stage during a rally featuring former President Donald Trump.

Ugenti-Rita, a Republican, was immediately greeted with a chorus of boos after taking the stage at a “Protect Our Elections” rally hosted by Turning Point Action in Phoenix on Saturday.

“Why don’t you listen to what I have to say? Arizona secretary of state candidate Ugenti-Rita called on the crowd after several failed attempts to deliver her speech.

“Listen. Alright, okay … I’m running to be your next secretary of state. I’m going to win the primary. Thank you very much,” she said, before walking away after about 90 seconds. on the scene.

Brahm Resnik, a KPNX reporter, tweeted that the hostile reception Ugenti-Rita received was perhaps due to her “opposing the GOP lawmaker’s wishlist for electoral changes.”

Resnik added: “FYI, the Trump base crowd was ready to boo @MichelleUgenti. It was nothing she said. ‘she jumps in the air. “

Ugenti-Rita, who chairs the Arizona Senate government committee, took to Twitter on Saturday night to explain why she killed the recent election bill.

“I’m going to pit my record for fighting for electoral integrity against anyone,” she tweeted. “What I won’t do is vote for ‘shown’ legislation that does nothing to strengthen electoral integrity and is introduced for selfish reasons.

There is too much at stake. Our electoral system is constantly under attack from the left, and I will not support bills that do not strengthen our electoral system.

The same is true for the audit. I supported the audit, but I no longer support the Trump audit. (3 out of 5)

She also explained why she is no longer supporting a multi-month audit of the 2020 election in Maricopa County, Arizona.

“I will not support bills that do not strengthen our electoral system. The same goes for the audit. I supported the audit, but I no longer support the Trump audit,” he said. she adds.

“I wanted to review our electoral processes and see what, if anything, could be improved. Unfortunately, it has now become clear that the audit was botched.”

Ugenti-Rita’s campaign has been contacted for comment.

Trump appeared on stage later that evening, where he repeated baseless conspiracy theories about the 2020 election and called out boos at his former vice president, Mike Pence, after attacking him for not having stopped the certification of the victory of President Joe Biden.

Trump also praised Arizona’s audit and called on other states to embark on similar efforts.

The former president’s appearance came after a row with Arizona State Senator Paul Boyer, who is among the state’s Republicans calling for an end to the audit.

Trump released a statement Thursday, describing Boyer as a “RINO” – a Republican in name only – and accusing him of “doing everything in his power to delay the damning forensic audit of Maricopa County “.

Boyer responded on Twitter, which banned Trump after a crowd of his supporters stormed the U.S. Capitol on Jan.6.

“If Trump had built the wall as he promised he might have been able to prevent the importation of the 40,000 #BambooBallots into Arizona,” Boyer wrote. “And if he hadn’t sparked an insurgency in Washington and been kicked out here, I could have answered him directly. So there you go.”
