Arizona Governor Doug Ducey defends electoral process after Trump attack

“I’ve been pretty candid about the Arizona electoral system, and bragged about it a bit, including in the Oval Office,” Ducey tweeted in part, praising the state’s electoral laws and practices as safe and enabling for voters.

Although states would certify their results and award electoral votes to Biden before the Electoral College meeting on December 14, Trump did not concede the election. Instead, he continued to falsely claim he won and criticize officials who refused to embrace his conspiratorial view of the election.

Ducey had said earlier Monday that he would sign the official documentation and hand deliver it to the President of the US Senate, so that Senator-elect Mark Kelly can “be sworn in as quickly as possible.”

In several tweets Monday night, Trump accused Ducey of “rushing to put a Democrat in power,” made baseless allegations of election fraud and vowed “Republicans will long remember!” The president then retweeted a number of tweets about Ducey, including one that read, “Who needs Democrats when you have Republicans like Brian Kemp and Doug Ducey?”

The president also recently attacked Georgia Governor Brian Kemp, another member of his own party, over allegations of fraud.

Democratic Gov. of Wisconsin Tony Evers also officially certified Biden’s victory on Monday, signing the documents to award the state’s 10 electoral votes to the president-elect after a recount requested by Trump in Wisconsin’s two most populous counties . Pennsylvania and Nevada each completed their certification processes last week.

Despite what Trump tweeted and said publicly following Arizona and Wisconsin certifying Biden’s victory on Monday, two White House advisers told CNN that Trump was seeing the scoreboard and understood he had no chance of hanging on to the presidency.
