PHOENIX – Arizona Governor Doug Ducey funneled nearly $ 400 million in federal coronavirus relief funds to state agencies to help pay for operations, allowing them to return part of their original budget allocations to the Public Treasury.
Ducey’s office says the move is prudent budgeting that will help Arizona avoid a serious budget crisis, but Jared Walczak of the Tax Foundation’s Center for Tax Policy calls it a “very aggressive interpretation” of federal rules.
Arizona reported an additional 4,314 confirmed cases and 20 deaths on Friday.
Earlier this week, experts at Arizona State University said the state could reach hospital capacity within one to two weeks.
