TUCSON, Ariz. (KGUN) – An Arizona grocery chain has been sold to an independent regional grocer in California.
After nearly 90 years in business, Bashas’ Family of Stores has signed an agreement to be acquired by Raley’s Holding Company, a California-based grocery store. Raley’s Holding Company has been operating since 1935, with operations of 124 stores in northern California and Nevada, and now in Arizona, according to a press release from Bashas.
With over 100 grocery stores in Arizona, Bashas’ also operates Food City, AJ’s Fine Foods, Eddie’s Country Store, and Bashas’ and Bashas’ Diné supermarkets.
During a presentation on Friday, Bashas President and CEO Edward “Trey” Basha and Raley’s Holding Company President and CEO Keith Knopf assured store members that the banners, employment and operations will remain the same at all Arizona stores.
“Today’s announcement marks the start of Bashas’ next exciting chapter as a fully incorporated operating company within the larger Raley’s business. Trey said that while the Basha family will not have an owner role, she looks forward to seeing the business succeed.
