An Arkansas police chief resigned after admitting to writing several social media posts in which he advocated violence against “Marxist Democrats.”
Lang Holland, who had been police chief in Marshall, Arkansas, resigned on Saturday after being confronted with the city’s mayor over a series of derogatory messages posted under his name on a conservative social media site.
“The Marshall community does not in any way support or condone intimidation or threats of violence against anyone of any political persuasion. We are a welcoming community that humbly works to build a bright future for ALL of our citizens,” said Marshall Mayor Kevin Elliott said in a statement posted on the city’s Facebook page. “Mr. Holland is no longer employed with the city.”
Marshall, a town of just over 1,350 residents, is about 100 miles north of Little Rock.
Elliott said he took notice of the social media posts when they began circulating on Facebook and Twitter on Friday under the username “Chieflangholland”.
ABC Little Rock affiliate KATV obtained screenshots of Holland’s posts before they were deleted.
In an article, apparently published before the November 3 presidential election, Holland wrote: “When this is over and Trump is president for another 4 years.” Don’t fall asleep. Remember what those bastard Marxist Democrats tried to do. “
The post went on to say, “When you see one in public facing each other, don’t give him peace. Throw him water in restaurants. Push him off the sidewalks. Never let him forget that he is. ‘he’s a traitor living in this Republic after what they’ve done. “
In another article, Holland wrote: “Death to Marxist Democrats. Take No Prisoners, Leave No Survivors.”
ABC News’s efforts to contact Holland for comment on Monday failed.
KATV reported that in now deleted posts, Holland encouraged people to burn down and break down Democrats’ homes and kick them out of the country. According to KATV, Holland also posted posts calling transgender people “mentally retarded” and “evil monsters.”
After the controversy over the posts erupted, Holland reportedly replied under a different user account with the username “the real boss”, denying that he was the author of the initial posts and writing: “I am NOT an ignorant, violent and racist follower of Trump like I have been portrayed. “
In a statement to The Arkansas Democrat-Gazette of Little Rock, Arkansas Governor Asa Hutchinson called Holland’s messages “dangerous” and called for his ouster.
Earlier this year, the Netherlands made national headlines by issuing a statement criticizing Hutchinson’s statewide mask mandate as “a very broad scope of power” by the state government. . He refused to apply the warrant.
