Today, Arlo has officially announced its Pro 3, the latest addition to its growing list of home monitoring systems. Anxious to reduce the gap between its Pro and Ultra cameras, this new version brings significant improvements. Third generation of Arlo. Pro cameras offer a wider field of view
For its latest release, Arlo aims to provide better quality home surveillance images and stand out from low-end options. One of the main improvements is that the Pro 3 cameras will now go to 2560p recording; upgrading the 1080p capabilities of the previous generation. So, while not penetrating the 4K territory of the Arlo Ultra cameras, it is a notable improvement.
A wider field of view also enters the mix, from 130 to 160 degrees of the Pro 2. Arlo will not change the degree of tightness of its Pro 3 cameras, which remain at IP65. Duplex microphones allow bidirectional audio communication, and smart home integration is based on Alexa or Assistant, for the moment.
Arlo Pro 3 leaves behind the design of its predecessors in favor of the new form factor of the Ultra Camera. This updated design brings some features that were previously specific to the Ultra series. This includes automatic panning and zooming, as well as HDR. Unlike the high-end camera system, Pro 3 will be available not only in the usual white, but also in a new black style.
The new system comes with a three-month subscription to Arlo's Smart Service. This adds 30 days of cloud storage, as well as advanced motion alerts; who are now smart enough to differentiate a person from a car, an animal or a package.
Absence of HomeKit support, for the moment
The latest addition to Arlo could support two of the most popular voice assistants, but Siri's compatibility will be lacking in the new Pro 3 launch. The good news is that the system is based on the same base station as the Ultra cameras of the brand. HomeKit support is expected to debut in the fourth quarter of this year. So it looks like the same functionality will come for Pro 3.
Price and availability
Arlo will debut with the new Pro 3 system on its own online store, as well as at Best Buy, starting at the end of the week. A crowd of other retailers should add the camera system to their stores later in the year. The start-up package count including two cameras will bring you $ 499, which also includes the necessary Smart Hub. Only one additional camera between $ 200 each, compatible with several existing base stations of the brand.
