The anonymous woman who first posted allegations against Armie Hammer on social media has come forward publicly.
“I thought he was going to kill me,” the woman, named Effie, said Tuesday at a press conference with her lawyer, Gloria Allred.
Effie accuses Hammer of violent rape and physical abuse, during their intermittent four-year relationship.
“On April 24, 2017, Armie Hammer violently raped me for over four hours in Los Angeles,” said Effie, “during which he repeatedly slapped my head against a wall while bruising my face. . He also committed other acts of violence against me to which I did not consent. “
Effie says that during the alleged rape, Hammer kicked her feet “to get them hurt” with every step she took. She says she tried to run away, “but he wouldn’t let me.”
Hammer denies the rape allegation. Hammer maintains that his relationship with Effie, and all the other women, was “completely consensual, discussed and agreed upon in advance, and mutually participatory,” his lawyer said. Variety.
Effie, who is 24 and lives in Europe, did not reveal her full legal name during the press conference. So far, she is believed to have been anonymously the woman behind the Instagram account, “House of Effie,” which first surfaced against Hammer. (During the press conference, Allred declined to say if his client was behind the social media account.)
Effie says she was 20 when she met Hammer via Facebook. She says that she “fell in love with him instantly”, and that the relationship progressed quickly with strong emotions. Looking back, she now sees “clear manipulation tactics” used by Hammer.
“He often tested my devotion to him,” Effie said, adding that Hammer was getting more and more violent. “He abused me mentally, emotionally and sexually,” she said.
In response to Effie’s allegations, Hammer’s attorney, Andrew Brettler of Lavely and Singer, posted a statement to Variety, strongly denying the rape allegation and Effie’s other allegations.
Along with the statement, Hammer’s attorney sent a screenshot of the text message correspondence they claim between Hammer and Effie, where Hammer is texting, “I will not be able to commit this way at the moment. It never ends well. We can talk and be friends, but I can’t do this.
Hammer’s attorney says the screenshot is “just one of the hundreds” Effie sent to Mr. Hammer.
Although Hammer’s attorney provided Effie’s full name, Variety chooses not to release her last name because she said she did not want to release her full legal name during her press conference.
“Effie’s own correspondence with Mr. Hammer undermines and refutes his scandalous allegations. No later than July 18, 2020, [she] sent graphic texts to Mr. Hammer telling him what she wanted him to do. Mr. Hammer responded by specifying that he did not want to maintain that type of relationship with her, ”Brettler said in a statement, obtained by Variety.
“Mr. Hammer never intended to embarrass or denounce [Effie’s] kinky sexual fetishes or desires, but she has now taken this issue to another level by hiring a civilian attorney to host a public press conference. With the truth on his side, Mr. Hammer welcomes the opportunity to set the record straight, ”the statement continued. “From day one, Mr. Hammer maintained that all his interactions with [Effie] – and all of her other sexual partners for that matter – were completely consensual, discussed and agreed upon in advance, and mutually participatory. [Effie’s] the attention-seeking and ill-advised legal offer will only make it harder for real victims of sexual violence to get the justice they deserve.
