Armie Hammer has dropped an upcoming movie starring Jennifer Lopez after messages allegedly sent by the actor leaked online. Hammer described the social media posts and response to them as an online attack, calling them vicious and bogus.

Hammer, a star of films including The Social Network and Call Me By Your Name, was scheduled to appear opposite Lopez in the action comedy Shotgun Wedding. However, he will no longer assume the role.

A production spokesperson told the PA News Agency: “Given the impending start date of Shotgun Wedding, Armie has asked to step away from the film and we support him in his decision.”

Hammer, 34, was commented on on social media over the weekend after explicit and disturbing messages were posted online allegedly sent by him.

Hammer said Wednesday in a statement to The Hollywood Reporter, “I don’t respond to these bullshit claims, but in light of the vicious and spurious online attacks against me, I can’t make any film in the Dominican Republic. Lionsgate supports me in this area and I am grateful to them. “

Shotgun Wedding will be directed by Pitch Perfect filmmaker Jason Moore and follows a couple with cold feet before they have to walk down the aisle. Things get more complicated when the marriage is hijacked by criminals.

Hammer played the Winklevoss twins on The Social Network and starred alongside Timothee Chalamet in the acclaimed drama, Call Me By Your Name.

He recently appeared alongside Lily James in a Netflix adaptation of Rebecca.
