A suspect has been arrested after police activity and road closures Saturday morning at the Chesapeake Bay Bridge resulted in a 4 mile backup, police said.

Route 50 westbound on Kent Island reopened after the suspect was taken into custody, the Queen Anne sheriff’s office said.

All lanes of the Bay Bridge are open again, but long traffic delays remained, according to national transport authorities.

The backups stretch for at least 5 miles on either side of the bridge around 12:30 p.m., the Maryland Department of Transportation said.

Police activities closed parts of Route 50 and the Bay Bridge for hours before noon.

Police did not give further details about the suspect or the charges against them.

All lanes on the Bay Bridge were closed early Saturday and part of Route 50 was closed for hours, authorities said.

Even after a lane on the bridge reopened, a line of traffic dropped from 2 miles to 4, authorities said.

Drivers on social media said they were stuck in traffic jams for up to two hours.

Beach bound traffic has been advised to take a detour at Exit 37 back to US 50 eastbound, the Maryland Department of Transportation said.
