AURORA, Colorado – Arrest warrants have been issued for two Aurora police officers in a criminal investigation into the use of force on a trespass call, sources initially confirmed to Denver7 Investigates .
Arrest warrants were issued Monday afternoon for Officer John Haubert and Officer Francine Martinez from the two officers who made an arrest as they answered the call in the OR 3100 South Parker Road on July 23, according to the Aurora Police Department.
Two sources confirmed to Denver7 Investigates that the male officer was whipping and suffocating the suspect he was arresting. Only one source says he tasered the suspect during the arrest.
The arrest warrant for Haubert is on charges of attempted first degree assault, second degree assault, threat of crime, official oppression and official misconduct in the first degree.
The arrest warrant for Martinez relates to charges of duty to intervene and duty to report the use of force by a peace officer.
The two are not yet in custody.
The ministry did not disclose further details of what happened during the incident.
Police Chief Vanessa Wilson is holding a press conference at 1 p.m. on Tuesday where she will post more details about the incident and camera footage carried by the body.
The city of Aurora has not commented on the situation.
Haubert had already been arrested in 2009 in the city of Arvada for the offense of threatening with a real and / or simulated weapon, driving while intoxicated and prohibiting the use of a firearm while intoxicated. The first two charges were dismissed as part of a plea deal, and he was ordered to pay fines and serve three months of probation and 24 hours of community service.
