Arsenal transfer roundup: search for creative midfielder intensifies as Mesut Ozil seals exit

Mesut Ozil is set to finally seal his exit from Arsenal – more than 10 months after his last appearance for the club.

The midfielder – who aided well in the victory over West Ham last March – has reportedly agreed to end his contract with the Gunners, paving the way for Turkish giant Fenerbahce.

Meanwhile, Arsenal are linked with a number of attacking midfielders as they look to step up their creative options.

One of their previous goals is in talks with an unspecified English club, while another is expected to become a free agent at the end of the season.

Ozil agrees to terminate the agreement

Mesut Ozil’s move to Fenerbahce took an important step towards completion after the midfielder agreed in principle to terminate his contract with Arsenal.

Ozil, 32, had claimed he would see the remaining six months of his £ 350,000-a-week contract in the Emirates.

But Athletic reports that the German World Cup winner is ready to terminate his contract in order to pave the way for a move to Fenerbahce.

The Turkish giants teased the move on social media, while Ozil traveled to the Emirates for what may be the last time.

Attacking midfielder update

Arsenal remain closely linked with a number of attacking midfielders across Europe as they seek to resolve their lack of creativity.

The 0-0 draw with Crystal Palace on Thursday revealed their shortcomings on the front foot, and youngster Emile Smith Rowe would benefit from the competition for the No 10 role.

French outlet Telefoot claims Marseille midfielder Morgan Sanson is in talks with an unnamed England club over a January move.

Sanson, 26, has been linked with Arsenal, Tottenham and West Ham in previous transfer windows.

Meanwhile, the German publication picture claims Julian Draxler won’t be leaving Paris Saint-Germain in the January window – but has claimed he will name his next club in March.

Draxler’s deal at Parc des Princes expires at the end of the season and the versatile attacking midfielder has often been touted for a move to the Emirates in recent seasons.

Preselected goalkeeper

Arsenal are keen on signing a new goalkeeper and have shortlisted Newcastle’s Freddie Woodman, according to football.london .

Alex Runarsson hasn’t been convincing since joining Dijon last summer, while Woodman, 23, won the Golden Glove as England won the Under-20 World Cup in 2017.

He has been on loan five times away from St James’ Park and has impressed over the past season and a half with Swnasea.

Woodman has kept 13 clean sheets in 22 league games this season, while the report adds that his father is the chief under-23 keeper at Arsenal.
