Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene denounced the Capitol rioters on Tuesday and said they were attacking all lawmakers – Republicans and Democrats – when they stormed the Capitol in the Jan.6 joint session to count electoral votes .

“The attack disappointed our objection which we spent weeks preparing for, which devastated our efforts on behalf of Trump and his constituents,” Greene, R-Ga., Said in a tweet.

She continued, “They placed homemade bombs on the RNC and the DNC the night before. They did NOT target a single party. They targeted Republicans and Democrats. They were all together against the government.”

Greene also said she was “very upset, scared and terrified for ALL of us” during the riot and said she “made a video telling people to stop and protest peacefully.”

TRUMP IMPAIRMENT TEST: EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW

“I will be eternally grateful to my fellow Republicans who courageously helped the police protect us and blocked the door,” Greene continued. “They bravely risked their lives against the attackers who attempted to enter.”

She added that the former president is “a victim of the endless hate-fueled witch hunt.”

But some of the rioters’ actions indicate that they were not in fact targeting lawmakers they saw as allies, including Senator Ted Cruz, R-Texas. Video published by the New Yorker showed rioters rummaging through Cruz’s papers before concluding: “It’s a good idea. I think Cruz would like us to do that, so I think we’re good.” They also said: “he is with us”.

Cruz, in numerous statements, however condemned the rioters.

Greene also credited on Tuesday the false claims that the rioters on Capitol Hill were not Trump supporters – they have been amply shown to be right-wing Trump supporters in almost every instance, as US forces order tracked down the rioters.

WHEN DOES THE TRUMP IMPACT TRIAL BEGIN AND HOW CAN I WATCH?

The pro-Trump mob entered the Capitol about an hour after the conclusion of Trump’s rally on January 6, in which he repeated false claims he had won the election and told his supporters to go at the Capitol “peacefully and patriotically”. However, those who believe Trump’s rally that day was offensive conduct say a comment does not outweigh the balance of his remarks, in which he also told his supporters that if they don’t Do not “retaliate”, they will not have country any more. “

Trump’s legal team says the use of the word “struggle” was figurative and meant political action on election security.

Greene has been a lightning rod for controversy as she has maintained her reputation as a bomb thrower while distancing herself from some of her more sweeping past statements. She repudiated QAnon after previously flirting with conspiracy theory; reaffirmed that September 11 occurred after expressing doubts about it; and apologized to his fellow Republicans in the House last week for the comments and others, including some apparently supporting violence against Democrats, ahead of his election.

The Republican Party has seen a handful of internal skirmishes, which took place over the past week. There was a vote in the Plenary House stripping Greene – one of the faces of the pro-Trump wing of the GOP – of his powers on the committee. Eleven Republicans joined all Democrats on this vote. Meanwhile, Representative Liz Cheney, R-Wyo., Survived a 145-61 vote to remove her from her post as GOP conference chair after voting to impeach Trump.

Similar divisions in the Senate will be closely watched during Trump’s impeachment trial, with a handful of Republicans seen as potential votes to condemn the former president while the vast majority of the GOP are expected to side with Trump’s lawyers, who described the trial as a “political theater”. “

“This impeachment trial is a circus for the Democratic media crowd to entertain the masses they have been brainwashed and addicted to hate, so that they do not see the policies being quickly forced into place that destroy our lives, steal our freedoms and put America last, ā€¯Greene tweeted Tuesday.
