(CNN) A 3-year-old boy died and his sister was injured at a relative’s home in Charlotte, North Carolina, after several people fired around 150 shots at the house, police said.

The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department is investigating the fatal shooting of Asiah Figueroa, who was sleeping at her great-grandmother’s house when he was fatally shot Tuesday before midnight. Her 4-year-old sister was grazed during the shooting and is expected to survive, CMPD said.

The police department released what appears to be surveillance video of the shooting, hoping the public can help identify the cars or the suspects. In the video, two vehicles are driving down a street and stop in front of a house when several people get out of the cars and start shooting at the house. Police said 11 people were in the house at the time of the shooting.

Susie Whitley, the boy’s great-grandmother, told CNN affiliate WBTV that Asiah and other family members were staying at her house and that she heard the gunshots just as she was about to fall asleep. Her granddaughter started screaming that Asiah had been shot as she dialed 911, Whitley told the news outlet.

“When I walked into his room, my grandson was in there, holding him, and he said, ‘Grandma, I think he’s gone. “I didn’t want to believe it,” Whitley told WBTV.

Asiah would have been 4 in December.

Detectives believe the shooting is linked to two other homicides, which are linked to students at Hopewell High School. Students from high schools in northern Mecklenburg and Chambers (Vance) could also be involved, authorities said.

“We believe these tragic events are due to simple arguments. What started as teenage argument games has turned into a deadly game which has now claimed the lives of two people,” said the CMPD captain. , Joel McNelly.

McNelly implored parents of high school students to provide any relevant information.

“Parents of children in these high schools: what we need from you is that you are as outraged as we are about this. This is where your children go to school. These are the people your kids are around, and we need your help, “McNelly said.” We need you to talk to your kids. You need to know whether or not your kids were home the last few nights. your kids weren’t home the last few nights during the night, we need to know that. ”

There are several suspects and several guns involved, but they could not locate any of the cars or anyone involved, police said.

Anyone with information about the shooting can call 704-432-TIPS and speak directly to a Homicide Unit detective. The investigation into this case is active and ongoing, CMPD said.
