Lovecraft Country‘s Jonathan majors rotated in the Loki finale with a charming smirk and the power to deliver long monologues about time and the infinite multiverse. The character is revealed to be the one who remains, aka the protective architect of the Time Variance Authority. After 30 minutes of back and forth, he is killed by Sylvie (Sophia Di Martino), who is looking for ravenge since the VAT destroyed his life. Before his death, the one who stays warns Sylvie and Loki of the arrival of his infamous variant (s) from another timeline. In the third episode of Disney + Marvel Studios: assembled, which goes behind the scenes of Loki, Majors and Tom Hiddleston both confirm that the next iteration the latter will play is, in fact, Kang The conqueror.

Majors was originally launched in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania in September 2020, and rumored to play the villain of the movie. Later that year, Marvel President Kevin Feige confirmed that Majors represented Kang T.he conquering in Quantumania. The film is slated for release in 2023, but the majors made a surprise appearance—a surprise only if you stayed away from constantly theorizing about Loki– in the sixth episode, “For all time. Always.“Only he didn’t appear exactly like Kang, although whoever stays tells Loki and Sylvie flairly that he’s been nicknamed “A ruler” and “a conqueror” before.

In the Assembled special on making Loki, Hiddleston is the first to reveal that the spooky variant of The One Who Remains, the one he’s talked about and is afraid of, is Kang. “Kang is determined to destroy and I’m so curious to see what Jonathan will do in the future,” Hiddleston said.. Marvel Studios director Kevin Wright reveals that the energy on set while filming the finale was thrilling because the team knew she was “watching the next phase of the Marvel Universe bloom.”

Kang is a time traveler with genius intelligence. Its time-jumping capabilities allow it to access cutting-edge technology that provides it, among other capabilities, with force and force field projection. As the name quickly suggests, its goal is to conquer all the worlds instead of dividing the population in half. In Assembled, Majors says the chance to play Kang’s many iterations is what attracted and attracted him to the role. “The goal was to give me the biggest canvas possible and from there, as Kang starts to lift his head and do his deeds, in many ways he has no choice but to be in opposition and to be different from the One who remains. “

It was not officially announced if the majors will return in Loki season two, although that’s almost confirmed by the massive final cliffhanger. Loki tries to warn his new best friend Mobius (Owen Wilson) and Hunter B-15 (Wunmi Mosaku) of the threat posed by The one who stays, but they don’t recognize the god of mischief (if that’s what he’s still doing in this new timeline). The headquarters of VAT is also slightly different. Instead of the statues of the three (non-existent) TK-nameeepers, there is a variation of the one that remains. This statue wears Kang’s costume with a different robe from the One Who Remains, and with a large neck ring and epaulettes. Looks like we are going see Kang even outside of Ant-Man 3.

The rest of the hour-long special reports with the cast and crew of Loki, and the process of bringing the show to life. Di Martino and ddirector Kate Herron discuss the inspirations behind Sylvie, which are more in line with Sylvie Lushton aka The Enchantress of Comics. Series creator Michael Waldron talks about the origins of Alligator Loki, and Richard E. Grant talks about his beloved cameo as Classic Loki. Hiddleston traces his 11-year journey of playing and evolving this character and how Loki changed the direction of the MCU in the future.
