Fauci continued his line on Face the Nation. “Is Johnson and Johnson a poor quality vaccine, especially for older Americans?” asked host Margaret Brennan. “No, you know, you can’t say that,” Dr Fauci replied. “We now clearly have three highly effective vaccines. They are very effective in many ways, especially in preventing serious or critical illnesses. If you look at all three, they’re really, really good. The J&J data that just came out and just been reviewed by the FDA. When you have advanced critical illness, there has been no hospitalization or death. This is good news Margaret. So, I think rather than analyzing the subgroups here, let’s just look at the totality of that. We have a very good vaccine. Dr Fauci again said he would have taken the J&J if it had been offered. Fauci had a busy Sunday morning. On CNN’s State of the Union, Fauci was again asked about J&J’s effectiveness and feared it was too low. “You can understand this type of problem,” Fauci told host Dana Bash, “but to really compare vaccines you have to compare them face to face. And these have not been compared face to face. The message that must prevail… is that these are three very effective vaccines. I can tell you that I was fully vaccinated with one that was available. It was the Moderna. If I weren’t vaccinated now and had the choice of getting vaccinated against J&J now or waiting for another vaccine, I would take the vaccine that would be available to me as quickly as possible for the simple reason that I said a moment ago. We want to get as many people vaccinated as quickly and as quickly as possible. So that’s good news because we have another very good vaccine in the mix.
