When it comes to the two-game playoffs, it’s hard to think of many that will be more eventful than the one between the Houston Astros and the Los Angeles Dodgers that started on Tuesday night. Max Scherzer will make his Dodgers debut on Wednesday, just days after being acquired from the Washington Nationals in a successful trade alongside Trea Turner. Yet on Tuesday the big story involved how the Dodgers crowd would behave with the Astros in town.

It didn’t take long for fans to be a part of the story. At the bottom of the first, with Corey Seager at bat, an inflatable trash can was thrown or dropped on the warning track behind right fielder Michael Brantley. The crowd then began chanting “Cheaters” for a delay as the trash was removed from the field.

Here is the video proof:

For those who may have forgotten, or are unaware of the story, the Astros defeated the Dodgers in the 2017 World Series. The penultimate offseason, former Astros pitcher Mike Fiers, revealed Houston engaged in technological misconduct by stealing signs during games using a live camera. (The Astros were pounding on a trash can to warn their hitters of the type of pitch ahead.) The Dodgers, understandably, think the Astros robbed them of a World Series title through unethical means.

The two teams played four times last season, including the first week game which saw Joe Kelly and Carlos Correa arguing. However, the global COVID-19 pandemic prevented all fans from attending. That makes Tuesday’s contest the first time Dodgers fans have been able to directly poke fun at the Astros since the scandal was exposed.

It is possible that the two teams are heading for another World Series showdown. They entered Tuesday with the two best point differentials in the majors.
