At least one person died and 15 people were injured Monday after a contractor working in a California home accidentally damaged a natural gas line that caused an explosion.
The Southern California Gas Company, or SoCalGas, has confirmed that one of its employees had died as a result of the explosion that occurred at Murrieta's home shortly after the arrival of the members of his team.

Murietta deputy fire and rescue chief David Lantzer said another 15 people had been transported for medical evaluation. Three of the wounded were firefighters, the others were civilians.
"We are deeply saddened to learn of today 's incident that took the lives of one of our employees, injured firefighters and other people. "said the company in a statement. "Our employee was responding to reports of a damaged gas line at home."
The contractor suspected of triggering the explosion did not request that the gas lines be marked before proceeding with the earthworks, as required by law, said a representative of SoCalGas at a Monday evening press conference.
Lantzer said at a press conference Monday that utility company teams arrived home around 11:23 am local time and that the explosion occurred around noon. SoCalGas has stated that it can reduce the flow of gas in the home by 13 hours.
There was no information on the severity of the injuries.
