San Jose, California – At least two people were killed and others seriously injured on Sunday night in a stabbing rampage in a church here. Police said there was no ongoing service at the time. They said that people “not housed” had been brought inside to get them out of the cold.

San Jose Police tweeted at around 8:47 p.m. that police were responding at Grace Baptist Church. It’s near the San Jose state campus, reports CBS San Francisco. They then tweeted that at least two victims had died.

Mayor Sam Liccardo said police had a suspect in custody, but police later said that was not the case. “No confirmation of an arrest. … It’s a very active scene,” they said.

Police also tweeted: “Thanks to @SJFD and our first agents who assisted victims in the midst of a chaotic scene and no doubt saved lives. “

CBS San Francisco was able to confirm that police are investigating two crime scenes – one inside the church and one outside.

Video from the scene shows a wide response from police and emergency vehicles.
