The 143 people in a plane that skidded on a runway and found themselves in a river in Jacksonville, Florida, were rescued during a spectacular rescue operation – but their animals Domestic servants have not been so lucky.

At least four cats and dogs remained trapped in a flooded cargo hold on Saturday, USA Today reported.

Officials said it was possible the aircraft contained more pets that had not been registered, but that late passengers had taken them on board.

The plane, originally from Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, was a chartered Boeing 737 carrying military personnel.

Only one passenger, a 3-month-old baby, was hospitalized, but only on Friday night, for observation.
