At least 7 injured after MTA bus passed through Bronx intersection: officials

BRONX, New York (WABC) – At least seven people have been injured after an MTA bus passed over a ground rail in the Bronx.

According to the NYPD, an articulated MTA bus was traveling at an intersection of the Cross Bronx Freeway and University Avenue at around 11:10 p.m.

Officials say the bus driver suffered brake failure or improperly maneuvered the turn and veered off the road, leaving the bus hanging from the overpass.

A video on Twitter and Citizen App shows half of the bus suspended vertically from the viaduct.

The vehicle was secured by the FDNY.

Firefighters say at least seven people were injured. Fortunately, most injuries are considered non-fatal.

The driver suffered the most serious injuries and is in serious condition.

All the injured were taken to a hospital in the area.

Officials say no other vehicles were involved in the incident.

The intersection has been closed and a tow is underway.
