At least nine people are shot and two died in separate shootings in Virginia Beach, Va. On Friday night.
Authorities received a call of multiple shots fired shortly before 11 p.m. local time on Friday. At least eight people were killed at the crime scene, according to Virginia Beach Police Chief Paul Neudigate.
At a second location, there was a separate crime scene where a suspect engaged with a police officer, resulting in a shootout involving police. The suspect is dead, authorities said.
At another crime scene, police said there was also a deceased gunshot victim, who is not believed to be related to the original shooting or the shooting involved by police.
In addition, a policeman was hit by a vehicle and went to hospital with non-life threatening injuries, police said. It is not known if this officer was the one involved in the second crime scene.
Several people are in custody, but it is not clear their involvement in one of the shootings, authorities said.
Virginia Beach Police initially confirmed there was an oceanfront shooting with “multiple victims.”
“VBPD is investigating a shootout involving multiple victims with potentially fatal injuries. Large police presence on the waterfront between 17th and 22nd streets Please avoid the area for now,” the department tweeted.
Sentara Virginia Beach General Hospital confirms to ABC News that it is treating six patients with gunshot wounds. Their terms were not immediately available.
