Six people are missing after the fall of two seaplanes in southeastern Alaska, the coast guard said Monday night.

The boats reportedly sank in the George Inlet area near Ketchikan. It was not clear right away whether floatplanes collided or descended separately.

The weather included a cloudy sky with 9 mph winds from the southeast.

The service reported that 10 people on board the two aircraft had been found, but their conditions were unknown. Coast Guard Petty Officer, Jon-Paul Rios, told the Associated Press that one of the planes was carrying eleven people and the other five.

According to the Ketchikan Daily News, injured passengers were taken to a nearby pavilion where local emergency medical services were preparing.

The coastguard announced that it had sent a helicopter crew and two boat crews from its Ketchikan station to search for the missing.

Associated Press contributed to this report.
