AT & T's donation to Locast makes sense now …

Over the past month, AT & T has become a staunch supporter of Locast, a free ad serving service that allows users to access local TV channels. Recently, AT & T added Locast to DIRECTV and U-verse set-top boxes. Later, AT & T donated $ 500,000 to Locast to support the non-profit group that runs it.

Now, the reasons behind AT & T's support for Locast make sense. This week, AT & T has removed Nexstar's premises, including many local ABC, CBS, FOX and NBC. Locast's support from AT & T gives them an edge over local owners like Nexstar when they demand higher prices.

Now that AT & T has Locast on its DIRECTV and U-Verse TVs, AT & T subscribers in major markets like New York, Philadelphia, Boston, Washington DC, Chicago, Houston, Dallas, Denver, Los Angeles and San Francisco can look at their premises even after AT & T has abandoned them because of contract negotiations.

Efforts have been made for years to find ways to bypass the local pay stations of the major cable television companies. In the past, during power outages, many cable companies offered free or inexpensive antennas. Now they offer Locast.

The head of DISH, Sling TV, weighs for years on the cost of premises. According to Sling TV, the cost of local TV stations will soon be $ 16 a month. With $ 16 on your local TV bill, you'll understand why AT & T and others are looking for a solution to this problem.

As subscriber numbers drop, look for fights such as the current fight between AT & T and Nexstar to become more common. AT & T has fewer subscribers and Nexstar is looking for more money. At some point, as the number of cable cuts increases, we will have to stop rising television bills. The only question is when will this happen?
