Atlanta rapper Silento arrested for murdering his cousin

Atlanta rapper Silento has been arrested for the murder of his cousin who was found shot dead last month in DeKalb County, Ga., Authorities said Monday.

Silento, real name Ricky Hawk, 23, was booked Sunday on suspicion of murder, according to DeKalb County Jail records.

An incident report from the DeKalb County Police Department shows officers found Frederick Rooks, 34, lying on a road in Panthersville, southeast Atlanta, around 3:30 a.m. on January 21.

Rooks had been shot in the face and in the leg, according to the report. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Neighbors heard several gunshots and alerted authorities, the report said. Security video showed several fleeing cars, one honking their horns.

The department did not provide further details on how investigators identified Silento as a suspect.

Representatives for Silento did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Silento’s 2015 single, “Watch Me (Whip / Nae Nae),” earned her a Billboard Hot 100 No. 1 spot and TV Show nominations.

Silento was arrested last year and charged with driving 143 mph on Interstate 85, NBC Atlanta affiliate WXIA reported. He told police he exceeded because he was followed after leaving a club in Gwinnett County, according to the station.
