The New York Police Department (NYPD) received no 911 calls in connection with the violent daylight attack on an elderly Asian woman in Manhattan earlier this week – despite surveillance footage showing the people watched during and after the vicious assault. officials said Wednesday.
Surveillance footage obtained by police shows at least three people watching the 65-year-old victim as she went to church on Monday morning on several occasions. But NYPD Case Det. Michael Rodriguez told reporters on Wednesday that despite the apparent presence of spectators, “no 911 calls” were made regarding the attack.
“They actually went through … the patrol officers in that part of Manhattan, they ran into the victim after she was assaulted,” Rodriguez said at a press conference regarding the assault and the arrest that followed. “So no calls to 911.”

Police caught Brandon Elliot, 38, a parolee, shortly after 1 a.m. on Wednesday and charged him with attempted assault as a hate crime, assault as a hate crime, assault and attempted assault, officials said.

“We believe at this point that she is completely innocent and that it is a completely helpless woman who comes to church,” Police Commissioner Dermot Shea said.
The video further shows someone in the lobby of a nearby building closing the door as the victim tries to get up from the concrete and her attacker walks away.
The victim suffered a fractured pelvis and a bruised head and was taken to NYU Langone Hospital, police sources said. Authorities believed she was still in hospital on Wednesday.
“The message to the Asian community right now is that you are not alone,” added Shea. “You might not see everyone standing with you, but New Yorkers are with you. They don’t all look like you. Their skin color may be different. The churches you worship may be different, but you are not alone. And we are united in denouncing this. “
Police sources told Fox News on Wednesday that Elliot had already been the subject of two arrests. In 2000, he robbed his mother in the Bronx, where he stole jewelry and strangled her, according to the New York Post. But a few years later, in 2002, he was arrested for murdering her, according to sources and records.
Authorities say when Elliot was 19, he stabbed his 42-year-old mother three times in the chest with a knife inside their Bronx home in front of his younger sister. He was charged and convicted of second degree murder.
A spokesperson for the Bronx District Attorney’s Office told Fox News that Elliot pleaded guilty to second degree murder on March 13, 2002 and was sentenced to 15 years in life.

Department of Corrections records show Elliot served just over 16 years at Fishkill Correctional Center in Dutchess County, New York, until his life on parole on November 4, 2019 His most recent parole hearing was in March of last year.
His most recent address has been listed as being just three-tenths of a mile from the most recent crime scene, at a West 40th Street hotel that also provides housing for the homeless, according to the Post.
