When is a final season not a final season? When it’s Attack on Titan final season – that’s when. Despite marketing to the contrary, the batch of Attack on Titan Season 4 episodes in 2021 did not turn out to be as successful as we had previously hoped.
Instead, there’s an Eren-shaped hole in our hearts that is waiting to be filled next year by the final season, part 2. But when does it fall? And when can we expect to air Attack on Titan episode 76 (this is season 4, episode 17 if you’re following Crunchyroll) in the West? While it’s still early days, we now have an official announcement to help you out until the series returns.
When is Attack on Titan Final Season Part 2? Episode 76 release date and speculation
Attack on Titan Episode 76 airs “This Winter”. This means that the last part of Season 2 (AKA the second half of Season 4) will be released in Japan’s traditional winter anime season. It goes from December 2021 to March 2022 later. Season 4 debuted in December 2020, so it wouldn’t be surprising to see MAPPA do the same thing again.
Expect Crunchyroll and Funimation to air every new episode “simulcast”. For Unities, that means they air with English subtitles on the same day each episode kicks off in Japan.
Sadly, no further official information is to come beyond the initial announcement – but cutting things down to a few calendar months is better than nothing at this point.
Much like the third season in 2018/19, the “ final season ” was split into two parts (or “ course ”) – we just didn’t get so many warnings this time around. There’s even a brief 15-second teaser predicting what’s to come. Watch it below (H / T Crunchyroll).

There is no word on the number of episodes yet, although those who follow the manga’s source material will be keenly aware that each episode has only covered one or two chapters each. There are about 25 chapters left. This would mean that 16 more episodes are not beyond the realm of possibility. The final season total could even reach 32 episodes, starting with Attack on Titan episode 76 later this year.
However, COVID remains the elephant in the room – at least when it comes to production. Expect delays and a less fluid release schedule this time around. But one thing is certain: the attack on Titan definitely ends in 2022.
