A man who broke into a south Pasadena home and attacked his ex-girlfriend died after being stabbed and beaten by the woman’s mother and sister on Saturday morning, authorities said.

The man threw a large concrete paving stone through the front window of a house on the 500 block of Five Oaks Drive, entered and began to choke the woman and punch her in the face, Lt. Barry Hall said of the Los Angeles County Sheriff.

The woman’s mother and sister came to her aid, stabbing the man with a kitchen knife and beating him with a golf club, Hall said.

“They tried to remove it, and it didn’t work; he was too strong, ”Hall said. “So they had to resort to weapons.”

South Pasadena police officers responding to a report of domestic violence entered through a broken window and found the man, who was pronounced dead at the scene by South Pasadena firefighters, authorities said. The LA County Coroner’s Office identified him as Justin Goss, 40, of Glendale.

The 37-year-old was taken to hospital, treated for facial injuries and released, officials said.

His mother and sister were not charged, authorities said.

“They had every right to act in defense of their sister and daughter,” Hall said.
