In the scam, a consumer calls a call, but the caller hangs up after a ring or two.
They may call several times, hoping that the consumer will call back, which will often result in a minute toll charges similar to a 900 number, according to the FCC.
Swindlers often use the country code "222" from Mauritania, a country in West Africa.
Do not call back the number, says the FCC.
