Auburn’s football coach Gus Malzahn said on Monday his players tested 33 positive for COVID-19 this summer.
Malzahn said a staff member also tested positive earlier this summer.
The Tigers and other Southeastern Conference teams opened preseason camp on Monday ahead of a season scheduled for September 26.
Malzahn said Auburn did not test positive last week, but four players are still following testing protocols. He expects results by the end of the week.
He said the school administered 863 tests among the players, an average of more than seven each. Staff members underwent five tests each.
Linebacker Chandler Wooten and defensive back Traivon Leonard have chosen not to play this season.
