Audible has announced a new preview service that will bring unlimited listening to an organized library of audio entertainment. Audible Plus will provide subscribers with access to 68,000 hours of content from over 11,000 original productions, audiobooks and podcasts.
The new offer will be available for $ 7.95 per month. Audible will continue to offer its premium credit-based service for $ 14.95 per month.
“Audible has always been at the heart of innovation in this area,” said Rachel Ghiazza, executive vice president and head of US content for Audible. Variety. “For us, it’s an opportunity to showcase a really well-crafted storytelling.”
Existing Audible members will be able to access the new Plus library starting today. New users will be able to subscribe to the Audible Plus service starting August 27.
Audible, owned by Amazon, has devoted increased resources in recent years to the creation of its audio content library, in particular through the development of original programs. Among the originals that will be part of the Audible Plus catalog are “When You Finish Saving The World”, written and performed by Jesse Eisenberg; “Yard Work”, written by David Koepp and performed by Kevin Bacon; and “Stories of a Lifetime” by Dan Rather.
“We’re really investing in a ton of different varieties of content – with that common flow that is storytelling, and that has this really distinctive layer of storytelling,” says Ghiazza. “We are looking for things that are satisfying and enjoyable for a customer. When you find a job where you’ve got a creator who’s really thought about the format and really thought about writing for audio, and when you start to see the interplay between character development and the sound environment, that’s is really pretty amazing.
