I could get used to it.
So far, after about a week of training camp for the Chicago Bears, the quarterback praise hasn’t stopped yet. Andy Dalton and Justin Fields both played all over the training ground at Halas Hall, and while I expected veteran Dalton to be consistent and professional, I honestly didn’t expect them to be. Fields daily reports shine.
I thought he would flash here and there while taking chunks, but even the occasional interception feels like a teaching moment that he will quickly move away to learn and grow as a player.
Today was no exception as Fields threw a few picks, but he also moved the ball and showed good attacking proficiency in their live sessions. It should be noted that Fields was leading the number two offense against the Bears number one defense in their melee.
The Bears had former head coach, offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach Doug Pederson in practice to work with the QBs, but reports indicate that was only one thing.
In the distance, Darnell Mooney has been one of the biggest recipients of solid QB play so far, with tight ends Cole Kmet and Jesse James also receiving a lot of love, but some of the unannounced guys like Jon’Vea Johnson and Rodney Adams have appeared on my Twitter feed as well.
With the pads in place for the first of three straight days, several defensive players were able to shine as well, with Roquan Smith, Kindle Vildor and the defensive line all creating the buzz today.
The Bears shared some highlights via their YouTube channel.
And here are some observations from those in the Twittersphere camp.
WR Marquise Goodwin is as good as advised. He had some great plays today and will emerge as a big hunk in this attack. #Bear

– #Bear really need their OL to get back in shape. DL pretty much dominated throughout and the attack was out of sync as a result
– Khalil Herbert really impressed me. Good contact balance in live exercises
– Vildor making parts outside the CB
– Keep an eye out for WR Jon’Vae Johnson– Andrew Freeman (@ AjFreeman25) August 6, 2021
Trevis Gipson just used a swim stroke over Tyrone Wheatley Jr. and passed right by Wheatley for the sack in the 1v1 drills. Gipson showed all the passing rush moves throughout this camp. .

Darnell Mooney wins a jump ball over Jaylon Johnson. Good pitch from Andy Dalton. #Bear

Roquan Smith made two excellent plays in these live goal line drills. First, he intercepted Justin Fields on a shovel pass. Then a few games later, he had a loss tackle on the running back.

Mooney with a nice course on Vildor. Created a good separation for Dalton #Bear

Moreover, #Bear CB Kindle Vildor took advantage of the opportunity given to him today with veteran CB Desmond Trufant treating an injury.

Cole Kmet ran a drag road down the middle and finished the game with a strong stiff arm over Austin Calitro.
