McLaren has some legacy with his hybrid hypercar. First, there was the McLaren P1. What machine it was. Then there was the P1 GTR track, which many owners had converted for the use of the road by Lanzante, the British team that had supported McLaren's legendary victory at Le Mans in 1994. [19659002] Lanzante liked what he saw with the P1 GTR, so they created a series of five LM P1s, with more power, more support, and quickly broke the Nürburgring lap record for a homologated car, with a lap of 6min 43sec in 2017. Then, they brought the car home.
And now, Lanzante has, for the last time, given the world another extreme variant P1. That's what's called the P1 GT, and these initials and this green hue are a tribute to the McLaren F1 GT, of which only three have been made. It was the homologated version of the "Longtail" F1 developed for endurance racing in the mid-1990s. And what we have here is a longer and more winged P1 to pay a very special tribute.
Apparently commissioned by an anonymous Middle Eastern collector (and very rich), Lanzante's P1 GT looks a lot like a P1 GTR of the rear wheels, but with a slightly finicky Aero around his chin, and a much more interior mellow we have seen in a P1 so far. The leather-trimmed seats and the curious U-shaped steering wheel are custom-designed.
On the rear, the rear deck of the P1 GT was significantly enlarged and the landing of the P1's hydraulic rear wing helped to gain weight. Here, a fixed monster carbon wing has taken its place. It is also the first P1 to have four exhaust outlets, pbading through a lower opening to which we are accustomed since a P1.
Although the customer who requested the car is happy to see her ride at the Goodwood Festival of this weekend, they have not unveiled the P1 GT in the lead of the 916bhp of the series car, or the 986bhp developed by the P1 GTR. And the price? Forget that.
We only hope that Goodwood's exploits this weekend are not the last time this rather spectacular creation is seen strutting its long tail in public.
