POUGHKEEPSIE, NY – This is a top of Bermuda – that's what causes these very wet conditions. Things will change on Tuesday, promise forecasters, but cooler temperatures will be accompanied by thunderstorms and the possibility of heavy rains and destructive winds.
First, Monday's highs. Times will reach the 80s to lower 90 for much of the region. Combined with the humidity, it will feel like the average of the 90s, mainly in the western parts of Lower Hudson Valley, New York City and Northeast New Jersey, according to the National Weather Service.
"Be sure to stay cool and hydrated, and start the work week well! The conditions will continue to be hot and humid, mainly for the metropolitan area of New York on Tuesday where heat indexes of 95 to 99 are again possible, said the NWS.
Then a cold front approaching will bring better chances for showers and thunderstorms throughout the region, continuing into the night of Tuesday. Heavy rains will be badociated with thunderstorms, as well as strong winds that can be damaging for some of the strongest storms.

Here are the five-day weather forecasts for the mid-valley of the Hudson River:
- Monday: Scattered showers and thunderstorms. Rather sunny and warm, with a high level near 91. The values of the heat index reach 97. South wind around 8 mph. The chance of precipitation is 30%. New amounts of rain less than a tenth of an inch, except for larger quantities in thunderstorms.
- Monday evening: Possibility of showers and thunderstorms, especially before 1am. Cloudy overall, with a minimum around 74. Wind south around 6 mph. The chance of precipitation is 30%. New amounts of rain less than one-tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.
- Tuesday: A chance of showers and thunderstorms, then showers and maybe a thunderstorm after 8am. Some storms could produce heavy rains. High close to 84. Wind southwest 6 to 8 mph. The chance of precipitation is 80%. New showers are possible between half and three quarters of an inch
- Tuesday evening: Probable showers and possibly a thunderstorm before 7 pm, then risk of showers and thunderstorms between 7 pm and 2 am , then isolated showers after 2am. Cloudy, then becoming gradually cloudy with a minimum around 64. Light northwest wind. The chance of precipitation is 60%. New rainfall between a quarter and a half inch
- Wednesday: Sunny, with a high near 83. North wind from 6 to 10 mph.
- Wednesday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 57.
- Thursday: Sunny with a high close to 85.
- Thursday Night: Clear, with a minimum around 61.
- Friday: Sunny, with a high close to 88.
- Friday night: Partly cloudy with a minimum of 62.
