CHAMPION Diamond Defender and Collingwood Sharni Layton announced that she will retire from all forms of netball at the end of the 2018 season.
One of the most prominent players and most beloved of netball, Layton, 30, announced "I did not really know how I would do this, I may have sneaked quietly, but then I was reminded that I'm not quiet," Layton said at the following address: the announcement this morning.

Layton debuted in Australia in 2009 and won world titles with the Diamonds in 2011 and 2015. She was also captain of the Diamonds in 2017.
"I am in this incredible race since 2004. J & I have moved 12 times in 10 years to pursue this dream of mine, and I owe everything to this sport and all that it has given me during the trip.
"This is never an easy decision to make, but I've been so lucky to have it." 39 to have represented my country; play in more than 100 national games, be a founding member of the Collingwood netball program, travel the world, and build and maintain relationships with all of my incredible teammates, coaches, staff and fans around the world.

The decision follows 12 difficult months for Layton after she was forced to take a leave while she was treating what she called a "mental health injury

In tribute to Layton, the head coach of Diamonds Lisa Alexander said she always gave him everything while representing the national team. and his opponents knew that they were in a battle until the final whistle, "Alexander said.

Layton's decision comes in a week after a trio of veterans of Diamonds decided that it was time to hang up the international bib with Laura Geitz, Susan Pettitt and Madi Robinson who were deciding to focus solely on the club netball.
